For facilitators

Kickin’ Ash is a fun, hands-on program that aims to engage youth ages 10 and up, in tobacco prevention projects. The goal of this program is to build on existing programs and/or new community-driven initiatives that engage youth, adults and the broader community in addressing youth tobacco use in Yukon.

Youth smoking rates have declined in Yukon over the past four years, but we still have the third highest smoking rates in the country, and we still have work to do (see full Health Behaviour in School‐aged Children report here). Up to 90% of adult smokers smoked their first cigarette before 18 years old, and research has proven that the adolescent brain is more vulnerable to addiction, meaning the younger a person starts smoking, the stronger the addiction later in life.

With tobacco being the leading cause of preventable death in Canada, there is no question that we need to strengthen our resources and support our Youth in saying no to tobacco. Join us in Kickin’ Ash!
