Jay's Story
I quit in 2004.
I didn’t use any method except for mental discipline to quit smoking. I knew the day I quit that I was going to become a non-smoker. I just didn’t want to be a slave to addiction any longer.
Carrots helped me for the first week or so. Then I kept thinking of how pink my lungs are getting, my taste buds are coming back, how I can smell better in just the first days. Every day brought back new senses.
I decided that it was time to get healthy, to get back to skiing and biking. Nothing really replaces the addiction of smoking but you find other things to enjoy. My new addiction is physical pursuit, outdoor things, cross country skiing, walks with the dog, biking. Now, I need to do something physical every day to feel good, to know that the air is clean - to have my pulse raised.
I truly believe that if you’re ready to quit mentally, there’s nothing that can stop you from quitting.
I did it, you can too.
